Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

A+

I have now finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for the second time. I’m currently revisiting the entire existing series to refresh myself before the release of Deathly Hallows. I’ve been taking it pretty leisurely though, reading other novels in between Harry Potter novels because I want to make sure I finish up the series pretty close to the DH release.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and, likewise, is set during Harry’s fourth year at Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The novel itself is considerably longer than all of the previous three, which accounts for the mounting detail and complexity of Harry’s adventures. This year Hogwart’s hosts the Tri-Wizard Tournament for the first time in centuries, but not everything goes as planned and we are treated to a new set of mysteries and mishaps.

Of all the Harry Potter novels that have been released, Goblet of Fire likely ranks as my second favorite (Order of the Phoenix being my favorite). The story is very engaging as usual. The novel is very difficult to put down once you have started reading, especially towards the end. I really liked this novel too because Harry and his friends begin to become more mature and the adventures, likewise, become more mature.

Another great aspect of this novel is the humor. Now that Harry is in his fourth year he begins to start going through the normal awkwardness of being a teenager, which is often quite comical. Rowling is able to relate so well what it felt like to be in high school. One the funniest portions of the novel is the Yule Ball, which is really just a high school dance for wizards.

As expected, Rowling delivered another great story with Goblet of Fire. I would recommend this novel and this series to anyone.
