A+

J.K. Rowling truly created something magical with the Harry Potter series. The stories of “the boy who lived” are incredible adventures that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. This first novel is a very quick and easy read and very enjoyable.

It seems that many people are afraid to enter the world of wizardry and witchcraft because they feel that these are stories meant for children. I first picked up this book during winter break of my senior year of college fearing the same thing. After about three pages I had completely forgot about my worries and was enthralled. I’ve now read it twice and will likely read it many more times.

All of the Harry Potter books are the same; once you start reading one, you won’t be able to put it down until you are done. Sorcerer’s Stone is no different.

J.K. Rowling’s first novel is an amazing introduction to a completely fantastic world of wizards, witches, Muggles, broomsticks, and magic wands. It is incredible how she is able to create an entirely new world and how she is able to visually depict that world.

The first novel introduces most of our major characters including Harry Potter, Ron Weasely, Hermoine Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid, Draco Malfoy, and Severus Snape among others. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the first novel is meeting these new and intriguing characters and watching Harry formulate his friendship with Ron and Hermoine. We also become aware of the looming threat of Harry’s fated adversary, Lord Voldemort.

Sorcerer’s Stone is not the best of the Harry Potter series, but it is still fantastic and it is an essential introduction. This is easily some of the most fun I’ve had reading.
